Edu Punay Biography
Before working in the government during the administration of Marcos, who’s 2022 presidential campaign Punay covered for The STAR, he had a lengthy and successful career as an award-winning journalist who covered all three branches of government: the executive, the legislative, and the judicial.

Punay is not entitled to engage into contracts or agreements concerning new programs and activities; instead, he has been entrusted with maintaining current projects, programs, and activities of the DSWD. This includes the procurement and distribution of funding.
As OIC, Punay has the authority to engage into contracts that include the renewal of contractual or casual employees, in addition to job order and contractual service workers, in order to guarantee that DSWD activities would remain uninterrupted.
The information that Punay is now OIC has been verified “internally” by a source at the DSWD; nevertheless, as of Tuesday afternoon, there has been no formal statement made about the change. The designation was verified by a different source as well, who also said that it took effect on December 23.
